What
is it ?
Orusovo started out as a simple personal dream to own a little
piece of land on which to live and let live - my own chunk of nature.
In 1987 the dream was realized with the purchase of 75Ha of pristine
nature (In plain English - lots of sand, rocks and bush) some 20Km outside
Windhoek, the capital City of Namibia. Here we created the ideal mix
of happy country living while being close to a major city.
Where
does the name come from ?
Upon buying the property, I challenged my staff at the time to
come up with an interesting name for it. The winner, Frans Kustaa,
came up with ORUSOVO. This is a word derived from Otjiherero,
an indigenous language, and cannot be directly translated into
English. The closest I can come to putting meaning to it is - PEACEFULNESS (not quite the same
as TRANQUILLITY)
Who
are we ?
We are Namibians by virtue of long residence in the country.
We actually arrived long before it became the Republic of Namibia.
In those bad old days it was known as Southwest Africa, and was
governed under League of Nations mandate by the Republic of South
Africa. Here I [Philip] worked in the office automation game
for all of my life, until I retired myself in 1995. I then started
a new business in the outdoor, caravaning and leisure scene,
which I sold after two years and started looking for something
new to keep myself out of trouble. This is it!
